National, Argentina - On 18th 19th March,was celebrated the ‘First International Seminar - Institutional Response to the Childhood in Risk - Problems Juvenile Justice’; took place in the Cultural Complex Spanish Park (Rosario, Argentina), organized by the National Ombudsman, the local government and the Judicial Power. Distinguised Specialists of Argentina and Spain took part in the issues related to this matter, and Ombudsmen of different jurisdictions of Argentina. It also participated the International Juvenile Justice Observatory, organization of Fundación Diagrama.

In a short period of time the International Juvenile Justice Observatory will publish the Conclusions of this seminar.

National, United States - The US Supreme Court has struck down the juvenile death penalty, embracing a constitutional challenge that the nation's evolving standards of decency have rendered the practice cruel and unusual.
In a landmark decision announced Tuesday, the justices ruled 5 to 4 that state laws authorizing capital punishment for 16- and 17-year-olds who commit murder violate the Eighth Amendment and are henceforth unconstitutional. The action reverses the death sentences of 72 convicted murderers who committed their crimes as juveniles.
