'Enquête Exclusive': Latin gangs

International - The International Juvenile Justice Observatory has been interviewed by the French television programme "Enquête Exclusive", about organized Latin gangs.

The interview outlines the growing phenomenon of Latin gangs in Spain, their origins and the importance of developing the educational work with minor gang members in order to improve their future social reintegration.

USA. Report. 'Differential treatment of youth of color in the justice system'

National, United States - The National Council on Crime and Delinquency (USA) has elaborated a report entitled 'And Justice for some. Differential treatment of youth of colour in the justice system' describing the difference between treatments of youth in the United States’ juvenile justice system according to the colour of their skin.

This report asks for a greater concern about the overrepresentation of minors of colour in the nation’s prisons for minors, particularly African American, in the United States. This report shows statistics and results of the evaluation that was made in this area.

Spain. Report. School Violence

National, Spain - The Ombudsman of the Spanish People, in collaboration with UNICEF, has published the report: "School Violence: The Ill-Treatment between Fellows within Secondary Compulsory Education 1999-2006 ".

This report examines, in a precise way and on a national scale, the coexistence in education schools, the repercussions which various types of violent conducts can have, as well as the main variables influencing the phenomenon of school violence.

Regional, United States - The International Juvenile Justice Observatory has the pleasure to inform you about the publication of the third IJJO interview. Wansley Walters, Director of The Miami-Dade Juvenile Service Department, United States, has answered our questions about the 'Martin Lee Anderson Act’ from Florida.

In this interview, Ms. Wansley Walters, Director of The Miami-Dade Juvenile Service Department,United States, analyzes the important changes implemented by the new 'Martin Lee Anderson Act' concerning the intervention of the state of Florida with youth offenders who have committed a serious crime. The programmes STAR ' Sheriff's Training and Respect ' are characterized for being more therapeutic and for providing more intensive mental health and psicosocial services, avoiding the physical restriction emphasized in the former ' boot camps’.
