| 'Expert NGO' of the European Forum for the Rights of the Child for the European Union |

European Union - The International Juvenile Justice Observatory has been recognised as an ‘Expert NGO’ of the European Forum for the Rights of the Child for the European Union.
Through the creation of the NGO Forum, the European Commission works to elaborate a common strategy on the Rights of the Child, particularly regarding the subjects related to violence against children, discrimination and social exclusion.
During the third meeting of the European Forum organised by the Directorate General Justice, Freedom and Security in Brussels last December 2008, the Vice-chairman of the European Commission, Jacques Barrot, presented the recent developments concerning child protection and the promotion of the Rights of the Child in the Members States.

National, France - Lowering the age of criminal responsibility at 12 years old, is one of the propositions of the report that was handed over by the Varinard Commission for the juvenile justice reform in France to Rachida Dati, Minister of Justice of France, on Wednesday 3rd of December 2008.
As a reaction to this report, Mrs. Dominique Versini, Child Ombudswoman, presents her recommendations to the IJJO Users and Collaborators as well as a series of press releases, reports and articles on the reform of the Organic Law of February 12th 1945 on child delinquency.

National, United States - Today, as many as 200,000 youth per year are tried in adult courts in the USA. Concerning the researchs, for the same type of offense and with similar prior records, indicates that 'transferred children' commit more violent crimes as a result of their experience in the adult justice system.
The IJJO within its mission on promoting and specific juvenile justice system and adaptated to juveniles, we would like to highlight this report which analizes the transferred children situation in United States and more specifically in Illinois.
