Juvenile Justice without Frontiers Grant

IJJO

On December 16th 2009, the International Juvenile Justice Observatory awarded the "JUVENILE JUSTICE WITHOUT FRONTIERS GRANT" at Brussels City Hall, Belgium. The IJJO has conceived the JUVENILE JUSTICE WITHOUT FRONTIERS GRANT to support and recognize the work of an expert in Juvenile Justice and to provide a global framework for measuring and presenting specific information about the situation of children in conflict with the law.

This grant has been developed with the great support of the Prevention of and Fight against Crime Programme of the European Commission- Directorate General Justice, Freedom and Security- to focus on the development of specific Juvenile Justice Indicators across Europe.  [+]

2009 European Crime Prevention Network Best Practice Conference and European Crime Prevention Award - Conclusions

'Preventing Crime and Victimisation among Children and Young People. Current and future challenges – school, cyberspace and recruitment to criminal groups is the title of the Annual conference organized by the European Crime Prevention Network (EUCPN).

This event brought together about 200 policy-makers, practititioners and researchers from 24 Member States and European organizations.  [+]

Mr. Jean Schmitz delegate for the Foundation Terre des Hommes Lausanne in Peru and the Regional Technical Advisor in Juvenile Justice for Latin America and the Caribbean describes and analyses the situation of restorative juvenile justice in Latin America. Some of the main elements pointed out by Mr. Schmitz are going into the restorative juvenile justice methodology and instruments in depth and evaluate the victim’s situation in restorative juvenile justice as well as the need to protect him and repair the damage.  [+]

Education in closed centres: An irreplaceable human right

This study is about the state of education in closed regimes observed from the complexity theory.

The objective of this study will be the description and analysis of the education that minor offenders receive at the high-security centre Almafuerte, in Melchor Romero ciudad de La Plata, Province of Buenos Aires, Republic of Argentina. There is an Adult Education Centre Nb 714 which depends on the General Directorate for Culture and Education of the Province of Buenos Aires. It will also study the social reintegration possibilities upon release at these centres based on the attitudes of the actors and taking into account the current international laws and recommendations.  [+]

The existence of indicators in Juvenile justice is a key to evaluate and address the juvenile justice systems in Europe, in order to guarantee that all children in conflict with the law, have correct and fair assistance at all time, and the international standards are respected.The biggest challenge for the development of indicators is the huge diversity of the systems in Europe and the different methodologies used to address the issues.
