On 18 and 19 February, the Commission’s Directorate-General for Justice, Freedom and Security held a Meeting of Experts on the protection of victims and victims’ rights. Over fifty experts from practically every Member State were present at the meeting. The experts in attendance were both representatives of the Member States themselves (mainly coming from the states’ different justice ministries) as well as various organizations, associations and research groups who carry out work with victims. The Council of Europe guidelines on child-friendly justice

IJJO

Since April 2009, a group of experts in the field of juvenile justice and children’s rights has been working on the preparation of these European guidelines. The International Juvenile Justice Observatory (IJJO) and at European level, the European JuvenileJustice Observatory (EJJO), are among the several organizations that make up this Group of Specialists on child-friendly justice. The objective of the Group of Specialists is to produce comprehensive guidelines on child-friendly justice, which will assist member states in ensuring that children have favourable access to justice.

The guidelines should contribute to improving the treatment of the child in all circumstances where he or she is, for whatever reason, likely to be brought into contact with civil, administrative or criminal justice. To this end, the guidelines should build on the existing national, European and international standards and make substantial references to the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.  [+]

COLLABORATION FORUM

From the point of view of the analysis of new forms of juvenile delinquency, cases of classroom violence and bullying at school are one of the greatest concerns for today’s society, with the use of new technologies also coming into the equation, giving rise to cyberbullying. Concern in this matter has led the International Juvenile Justice Observatory, through its International School for Juvenile Justice, to set in motion an innovative training action on the subject of school bullying and coexistence. It would also like to pose the following questions on the phenomenon of violence and bullying in schools:

Which resources and mechanisms are fundamental to breaking the cycle of violence and bullying in the school context?
