First meeting of Presentation of the Asian-Pacific Council for Juvenile Justice ‘An Asia-Pacific Strategy on Juvenile Justice’ Bangkok, 12-15th June 2012

Friday 11th of May 2012
IJJO Day by Day
In the city of Bangkok, from the 12th to 15th June 2012, the International Juvenile Justice Observatory is organizing together with the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection of the Thai Ministry of Justice, the First Meeting of the Asian-Pacific Council for Juvenile Justice.

The objective is to translate the know-how and conclusions drawn from meeting into concrete actions and documents which can be used for advocacy purposes as well as for the training of the judiciary and law enforcement officials, civil society and community based organisations. This Meeting is part of the National and Regional Conference on ‘Towards comprehensive and effective Juvenile Justice System in Thailand and the Region’.

In April 2012, Cristina Goñi, Secretary General of the IJJO had the honour to sign a collaboration agreement with Mr. Tawachai Thaikyo, Director General, Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection of The Ministry of Justice of Thailand , during the Twenty-first session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, in Vienna. Within this framework and in order to assist countries in the Asia-Pacific region in the implementation of international standards and the development of the reforms, the IJJO established the Asian-Pacific Council for Juvenile Justice to formulate recommendations on juvenile justice in this region.

Bearing in mind that the situation of children in conflict with the law, child victims and witnesses of crime have become an increasing concern for most of the countries of the Asia and Pacific region, the IJJO has constituted the APCJJ to gather quantitative and qualitative information on the situation of children, adolescents and young people in conflict with the law.

During the meeting in June 2012, the Asian-Pacific Council for Juvenile Justice will bring together representatives of public administrations, universities and civil society, all of them with expertise in legislation, implementation, supervision, research or intervention in the field of juvenile justice.

The International Juvenile Justice Observatory invites you to attendance or present a paper in one of the different subject areas of the National and Regional Conference: ‘Towards comprehensive and effective Juvenile Justice System in Thailand and the Region’ in the context of the ‘First Meeting of the Asian-Pacific Council for Juvenile Justice’.
