The Punjab and Haryana High Court, it seems, has been taking divergent views on grant of pre-arrest bail to a juvenile. While the Bench has, in some cases, held that pre-arrest bail plea by a juvenile is not maintainable, the High Court has, in its latest judgment, ruled that the legislature has no intention of debarring a juvenile from seeking relief.

El secretario de Estado de Justicia, Pablo Zapatero, y el secretario de Estado de Derechos Sociales, Nacho Álvarez, se han comprometido a ello este martes ante el Defensor del Pueblo, Francisco Fernández Marugán.

Too many schools, police forces, councils and courts are hiding behind “a veil of complexity” to excuse their failure to reduce the disproportionate number of black and minority ethnic children in the criminal justice system, according to the first black chair of the Youth Justice Board (YJB) in England and Wales.

Keith Fraser, who worked for the Metropolitan police and West Midlands force for 32 years, rising to superintendent, said tackling this disproportionality would be one of his top priorities.

The Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR) has urged the government to reassess the Juvenile Justice System Law as the vast majority of underage offenders are still subject to imprisonment, depriving them of their basic rights.

A recent ICJR study found that 93.75 percent of 304 underage offenders served prison sentences throughout 2018 due to the law. Furthermore, the study also found that the prison time of a number of youth offenders exceeded that which was handed down by the court.

Le procès de deux policiers nationaux de Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), pour violences aggravées, s’est ouvert au tribunal de Tarbes, mardi 21 juillet, rapporte France Bleu Béarn. Les prévenus auraient frappé un mineur, à l’hôtel de police de Pau. L’adolescent, âgé de 16 ans, avait été interpellé dans la nuit du 19 au 20 octobre 2019. Ce dernier a eu le tympan percé.

Young people need a digital “Bill of Rights” to protect their social media communications from misuse by police and educational authorities, says a new report.

The report, based on interviews with young New Yorkers and commissioned by the Center for Court Innovation (CCI), called on New York’s City Council to ban all social media surveillance of young people and to scrap a controversial database containing the names of suspected gang members.

The “Free Grace” movement started after a Black teenager from Michigan was sent to juvenile detention for not finishing her schoolwork in what protesters are calling a case of racial discrimination.

Protesters are outraged over the case of a Wylie E. Groves High School student named Grace, saying it’s racial discrimination. They gathered Thursday outside the school then marched to the Oakland County Courts complex.
