  The International Juvenile Justice Observatory (IJJO) is a Belgian Public Utility Foundation.
 
  The International Juvenile Justice Observatory is conceived as an inter-disciplinary system of information, communication, debates, analyses and proposals concerning different areas which affect the development of juvenile justice in the world.
 
  The Observatory offers different services in French, English and Spanish as well as other languages, addressed to entities, professionals and individuals from all over the world involved and interested in the subject.
 
 
  At present we offer the following placements:

IJJO Internship: 'Organizer events Assistant'
 
 
Objectives of the placement:
 
 
Assists with the organization of the Fourth IJJO International Conference: "Building integrative juvenile justice systems: Approaches and methodologies regarding mental disorders and drugs misuse". 9th and 10th November 2010.
 
 
Support and assistance in answering the conference requests , data entry and assisting with event planning.
 
 
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and determination to meet deadlines.
 
 
Knowledge and experience in international event management.
 
 
Providing assistance on writing conference reports, summarizing results and following up the conference organization deadlines.
 
 
Profile:
 
 
Minimum study level: University degree.
 
 
Excellent communication skills, able to communicate with a variety of stakeholders and collaborators.
 
 
Good writing and communication skills in English, Italian and Spanish; French is a plus.
 
 
Creativity, versatility, high energy, initiative and discipline.
 
 
Good use of IT.
 
 
Able to work independently as well as being part of a team.
 
 
Internship term:
 
 
Maximum 6 months minimum 3 months (Flexible period according to the student's availability).

Objectives of the placement:
 
 
Data management and Survey on mental health and young offenders
 
 
Conduct library research and assistance on implementing research quality control procedures.
 
 
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and determination to meet deadlines.
 
 
Knowledge and experience in Research assistance on social sciences and juridical psychology.
 
 
Providing assistance on writing reports, summarizing research results and following up the project research deadlines.
 
 
Support and assistance in the preparation of the Fourth IJJO International Conference: "Building integrative juvenile justice systems: Approaches and methodologies regarding mental disorders and drugs misuse"
 
 
Profile:
 
 
Minimum study level: University degree in Psychology and Law. (Specialized knowledge on Juridical psychology)
 
 
Excellent communication skills, able to communicate with a variety of stakeholders and collaborators.

IJJO Internship: 'Journalism Intern/Volunteer'
 
 
Objectives of the placement:
 
 
To promote the International School for Juvenile Justice (ISJJ).
 
 
Writing articles, assisting in drafting fact sheets, press releases and other related information in Spanish-speaking countries.
 
 
Gathering of primary research material and checking background information.
 
 
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and determination to meet deadlines.
 
 
Knowledge and experience in journalism.
 
 
Additional tasks and responsibilities as mutually agreed upon.
 
 
Profile:
 
 
Good writing and communication skills in English and in Spanish; preferably spanish.
 
 
Creativity, versatility, high energy, initiative and discipline.
 
 
Good communication skills to disseminate and promote institutional information.
 
 
Minimum study level: university degree in Communication Studies.
 
 
The knowledge of other languages and law is a plus.
 
 
Good use of IT.
 
 
Able to work independently as well as being part of a team.

IJJO Internship: Research and follow-up on the Spanish Presidency of the EU and international institutions
 
 
Objectives of the placement:
 
 
Follow-up of the agenda (seminars, courses, conferences, etc) of the EU's Spanish Presidency in light of the new Treaty of Lisbon.
 
 
To develop contacts and strategies between the IJJO and the EU's Spanish Presidency authorities.
 
 
Search for EU partners on justice affairs to establish collaboration and coordination.
 
 
Follow-up of the institutional relations between the IJJO and the UN Economic and Social Council, the Council of Europe, the European Council, the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Economic and Social Committee, etc.
 
 
Professional training.
 
 
Profile:
 
 
Minimum study level: university degree.
 
 
Specialization: International Relations, Political Sciences, Law.
 
 
A good level of written and spoken English and French, or Spanish and English. (If you speak all of them that would be a plus).
 
 
The knowledge of other languages is a plus.
 
 
Good use of IT.
 
 
Able to work independently as well as being part of a team.

Development of a study on legal assistance for children around Europe.
 
 
Development of guidelines for awareness-raising and the promotion of legal assistance in Europe.
 
 
Management of national and international legal documents.
 
 
European projects.
 
 
Professional training.
 
 
To manage an EU-wide study on the situation of legal assistance for minors and young people.
 
 
To develop relations between the IJJO and European bar associations.
 
 
To study European laws and good practices in the juvenile justice area.

Analysis of juvenile social exclusion in Europe according to 2010: European Year of Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion
 
 
Professional training.
 
 
To manage challenges/obstacles on children in poverty and social exclusion, which remain to be addressed across the EU.
 
 
To develop the International Juvenile Justice Observatory's database of international laws and good practices in the juvenile justice area.

Presentation of a portfolio of work you have already carried out (academic or professional).
 
 
A degree in Graphic Design or Fine Art is preferred.
