Description

The Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Officer Training (GOT) is a certification course strategically and sequentially designed to train participants in the fundamental aspects of the G.R.E.A.T. Program, how to effectively interact with the community and school system, and how to effectively and consistently implement and facilitate the middle school and elementary school curricula and the summer component.

Learning Objectives:

 Define "school community" as the individuals involved in the day-to-day activities occurring within the school environment - students, teachers, the administrator, parents, and support staff (e.g., the G.R.E.A.T. instructor)

Given a list of characteristics of a typical police culture, list the similarities and differences between the police culture and the school culture

Using the COVAC acronym, identify one or more of the following strategies that help establish boundaries:  Communicate effectively; Observe others’ behaviors over time to understand their boundaries so you do not violate them; Validate boundaries and be objective; Allow time for boundaries to be observed and patterns established; and Consider other people’s personal needs, place in life, and level of esteem
