Agenda

New Ways for a Sustainable Reintegration of Offenders- Examples for Reform within Countries of the EU -

International Congress

Date

Friday 9th of May 2003 - Saturday 10th of May 2003

Description

Topics of this transnational conference will be the organisation and the legal framework of questions concerning the social and vocational reintegration of prisoners. Special attention will be paid to the crucial time immediately before and after release.

Experts working in different areas will participate: Criminologists with practical background, members of different associated statutory and voluntary services, prison-staff with a resettlement background, probation officers and NGO's.

Questions concerning appropriate legal and social frameworks to support the reintegration of offenders will be under discussion. All European Countries are facing similar problems: rising prison populations, the task of reintegrating former prisoners, questions concerning legal restrictions and conditions. It is therefore the aim to strive for a systematic comparison of experiences made by experts with practical background working in different European Countries. This will assist in the development of good practise across different European countries and provide a valuable opportunity for the development of common approaches.
