'FACT FOR MINORS' project: Seminar on mental health for young offenders

Tuesday 3rd of October 2017
IJJO Day by Day

As part of the ´FACT FOR MINORS – Fostering Alternative Care for Troubled Minors´ project, its partners attended an online seminar on mental health for young offenders on the 27th of September, organised by the health foundation Sant Pere Claver under the regional Government of Catalonia, whose Justice department is a partner of this project. The IJJO was represented by Adélaïde Vanhove, Policy Officer on European Affairs.

The online seminar examined the mental health support programme that the Sant Pere Claver foundation runs for young offenders. This programme is based on a multi and interdisciplinary approach. It provides diagnostic orientation and mental health assistance to young offenders, as well as guidance and support to their families and educational environments in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. It also provides advice on any issue related to mental health for the juvenile justice professionals who work with these children.

The project ‘FACT FOR MINORS – Fostering Alternative Care for Troubled Minors’ intends to address children with psychological, psychiatric or personality disorders, hosted by alternative care communities (or socio-educational communities) as a consequence of penal measures. This goal is pursued by strengthening the cooperation between the health services and the Juvenile Justice system in five European Member States.
