Ministry of Justice Chile-IJJO

Friday 10th of July 2009
IJJO Day by Day
According to the collaboration agreement between Chile and the IJJO, experts from the Ministry of Justice and the National Service for Minors (SENAME) visited the juvenile justice systems in Europe, which ended by the visit of criminal and socio-professional integration programmes for minors in Spain.

The IJJO emphasizes the importance of this institutional collaboration which favours the development of good practices models in the intervention with minors in conflict with the law.

Dear IJJO users and collaborators,
From Monday 15th to Wednesday 24th an official delegation from Chile, made up of representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the National Service for Minors, the Judiciary, a Member of Parliament (National Renewal) and a researcher from the Foundation Paz Ciudadana, did an official visit of the Detention Centres for Adolescents in Germany, more specifically in Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden, Leipzig and Adelsheim and in Spain, in the Autonomous Regions of Madrid and Andalusia (Madrid – Cordoba – Seville).
They visited a total of 9 centres and had meeting with various agencies and authorities of both countries.
It has been a successful exchange of experiences within the implementation process of the Law Nº 20,084 on the Criminal Responsibility of Adolescents, at a time when 10 new high standard centres are being designed and built for adolescents as well as the design of a new institutions for children and adolescents. The German and Spanish administration models for centres and socio-educational intervention will undoubtedly serve as a guide to implement this new system in Chile. We deeply thank the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the International Juvenile Justice Observatory (IJJO) for the coordination and support of this visit which is essential for the new challenges in our country.
Fanny Pollarolo, Head of the Department for Juvenile Responsibility of the National Service for Minors
and Sergio Henríquez Galindo, Head of the Department for Minors of the Ministry of Justice in Chile
