The IJJO participates in the Club de Madrid kick-off meeting on the prevention of violent extremism

Friday 14th of October 2016
IJJO Day by Day

On the 28th of September the IJJO attended the Club de Madrid kick-off meeting “Preventing Violent Extremism: Leaders Telling a Different Story”. This event marked the start of a very ambitious EU-funded project, lasting 12 months, which aims to strengthen the counter-narrative debate on extremist propaganda, as well as produce a multi-dimensional response to this issue.

This shall be accomplished by channelling the collective expertise of policy-makers, media representatives, experts, practitioners and the wisdom and experience of the Club de Madrid, all of whom are former democratically elected Presidents and Prime Ministers. The project will be conducted in Tunisia, Nigeria and Lebanon.

This kick-off meeting was an opportunity for fruitful debates, divided into four complementary sessions, including the participation of expert panellists and an informed audience.

As part of the Madrid+10 initiative, this event was also the opportunity to present the conclusions of last year’s highly successful conference, in which the IJJO also participated.

The IJJO welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with the Club de Madrid on such a sensitive topic given our shared interests and the complementary nature of our respective projects: “The prevention of Juvenile Radicalisation” (JUST/2015/JTRA/AG/EJTR) and “Strengthening Juvenile Justice Systems in the Counter-Terrorism Context” (JUST/2015/JCOO/AG/723203).

A programme, list of participants and other information on the kick-off meeting, as well as the project, can be accessed here.
