Juvenile Justice in the world

In March 2017, the LGBT Subcommittee of the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice (FACJJ) published its recommendations for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), regarding strategies to advance US juvenile justice reform for LGBQ/GNCT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, questioning/gender nonconforming, transgender) youth.

The recommendations gathered in this publication were made by members of the LGTB Subcommittee, including policy professionals, social science researchers, public defenders, probation officers, among others. They cover four main areas of action:  policy and program development; training and technical assistance; data collection and research; and federal LGBT juvenile justice coordination.

These four groups of recommendations also aim to improve other systems which serve LGBQ/GNCT youth, including child welfare and education systems.

The IJJO fully supports the report’s recommendations, which will actively participate to the improvement of the US juvenile justice system for LGBQ/GNCT youth.
