Pakistan

On July 1, 2000 the Government of Pakistan introduced JJSO (Juvenile Justice System Ordinance 2000) to protect and promote the rights of all under-18 children who come into conflict with the law. On May 9, 2002 the Government of NWFP notified rules under the JJSO; subsequently, the Honorable Peshawar High Court designated the District and Sessions Courts as Juvenile Courts in the whole Province.

Peshawar: Juvenile Justice Network NWFP has called upon the Governor NWFP Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah to extend the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance 2000 to PATA (Provincially Administered Tribal Areas). According to a letter sent to Governor NWFP by Arshad Mahmood Coordinator JJN NWFP; the Government of Pakistan introduced JJSO (Juvenile Justice System Ordinance 2000) on July 01, 2000 to protect and promote the rights of all under 18 children who come into conflict with the law.
