El ministro de Justicia y Derechos Humanos (MINJUSDH), Vicente Zeballos Salinas,  anunció que en los próximos 30 días se notarán cambios en los centros juveniles de rehabilitación del Perú.

Fue durante el recorrido que realizó este jueves al centro de Maranguita, junto al presidente de la República, Martín Vizcarra, cuando visitaron los talleres productivos, el comedor y los dormitorios, donde habitan 750 jóvenes infractores de la ley.

Justice systems designed for adults often lack the capacity to adequately address the protection of the rights of juvenile offenders and are more likely to harm than improve a juvenile offender’s chances for reintegration into society. To resolve this problem, Juvenile Justice System was incorporated in criminal legal system of Pakistan in the year 2000. Unfortunately, this law was not a perfect piece of legislation for juvenile offenders and was ultimately declared annulled by the Lahore High Court.

On Oct. 1, the first phase of a New York state law known as “Raise the Age” took effect, meaning 16-year-olds can no longer be arrested or tried as adults. A year from now, the law will extend to 17-year-olds as well.
