II Conferencia Internacional de Children´s Rights Erasmus Academic Network, CREAN: “Children´s Rights to Non-Discrimination”

Jueves, 04 de Diciembre de 2014 - Viernes, 05 de Diciembre de 2014

The 2nd CREAN Conference “Children’s Rights to Non-Discrimination” – organised by Siauliai University and Mykolas Romeris University – will focus on the reasons why children's rights are violated, states are called to take proactive measures where necessary to guarantee the principle of non-discrimination, including law and policygeneral principle of non-discrimination stated in Article 2 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Taking into account that discrimination is one of the main reform, education, awareness-raising, and monitoring, among others.

The conference will focus on and explore among others the following subtopics: racist discrimination and discrimination against (ethnic) minorities, refugees and migrant children, socially disadvantaged children and age-based discrimination.

Different aspects of these subtopics will be looked at in project partner countries. As there are many forms of discrimination against children which are neither sufficiently understood, recognised or discussed by academics, researchers and practitioners working on behalf of or with children neither by parents or guardians, there is a specific need for exchange in order to increase research in this field. Recognising people's different identities and forms of discrimination in various settings (family, school, social institutions, society) has important implications for how discrimination is dealt with in practice.
