He said the judiciary would play a dominant role in creating awareness among the younger generation, especially students, to respect and understand the law.

The recent outlawing of judicial corporal punishment has been hailed by human rights and legal experts as a major milestone pointing to Zimbabwe's efforts to meet its international and regional commitments. Chief Justice Luke Malaba sitting with eight other judges of the Constitutional Court, struck down Section 353 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, which provided for moderate corporal punishment for juvenile offenders.

Legislation being considered in the Illinois House would raise the age for locking up children accused of a crime.

Children as young as 10 can be detained under current law. Some lawmakers want to raise that to age 13.

State Rep. Robyn Gabel, who sponsors the legislation, said even one day in detention can change the trajectory of a child's life.

Johannesburg, South Africa (ADV) – Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Court (Concourt) recently outlawed judicial corporal punishment, underling that it amounts to inhuman and degrading punishment, African Daily Voice has learnt.

According to The Herald, Chief Justice Luke Malaba, sitting with eight other judges of the apex court, ruled that such inhuman treatment had no place in a democratic society.

There is finally a glimmer of bipartisan support in the Florida Legislature for meaningful, though modest, juvenile justice reform. Lawmakers should not let that ember of hope die out. The fact that Florida leads the nation in charging children and young teens as adults is outrageous. Legislation currently under consideration could help push back when prosecutors overreach.

The New Zealand Māori Council wants to know why the number of Māori children and young people in state care continues to rise, despite attempted reform of the sector. Executive director Matthew Tukaki says Oranga Tamariki figures show in June 2017 61 percent of children in state care were Māori.
