A bipartisan bill package was introduced in the Legislature to raise the age of juveniles tried as adults in Michigan’s criminal justice system – again.

The 14-bill package of House and Senate bills aims to raise the age of juveniles from 17 years old to 18 years old for most crimes.

A similar package failed to gain traction in the Senate after passing the House during the last session. One bill sponsor, Sen. Pete Lucido, R-Shelby Township, said the renewed effort needs to pass to help children carve a path to success later in life.
