Protection System and Restorative Justice: The Belgian Experience

This video presents the Belgian juvenile justice system briefly and explains how restorative justice is used and when it can be used. It explains more specifically how a mediation process works.

Belgium being the expert partner in the AWAY project on this subject, the idea is to show concrete examples of how restorative justice could be implemented, and at which stages of the juvenile justice procedures.

This video is a simplified version of a longer video edited by Arpege, a group of mediators in Belgium. In addition to animated parts, it includes several testimonies about the benefits of mediation from Belgian citizens involved in a mediation process and from professionals.
