The Fundamental Rights Agency of the European Union has recently published a report which analyses the implementation of Directive (EU) 2016/800 on procedural safeguards for children suspected or accused in criminal proceedings in nine Member States: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Estonia, Italy, Malta, Poland and Portugal.

This document is based on the experiences of both professionals and children on how the directive is implemented in practice, thus helping authorities and policy makers to gain a better understanding of the challenges to fundamental rights encountered and possible solutions to address them. The report also highlights good practices that countries could follow to uphold children's rights in the justice system.
