Webinar: The Age of Criminal Responsibility: Exploring how the children’s hearings system currently addresses the serious behaviour of children just above the ACR threshold

Tue 4 Nov 2025 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM GMT

Summary:

By examining the backgrounds and characteristics of a sample of children charged with a serious offence, and interviews with Children’s Reporters about their decision-making, a new report from SCRA describes the children, the offences, and how the children’s hearing system currently addresses children accused of causing serious harm. Topics to be explored include public confidence in the children’s hearing system and its holistic, child centred and non-punitive approach, the timeliness of referrals and impact of delays and access to appropriate interventions, and the impact of technology and the media on children’s offending behaviour, particularly in relation to sexual offending.
